Great Debut For Alec Cutler In Multihull Racing

After savoring the success in the M32 Chicago Regatta, Alec Cutler in the multihull racing, could not have asked for a better debut.


The skipper of Royal Bermuda Yacht Club won the two-day regatta along with his Hedgehog crew, that include Mustafa Ingham Team BDA sailor, by nine points over Convexity to register a stunning debut in the M32 catamaran one-design.

Cutler said, “Other than luck of the beginner, we learnt quickly and become better each single day in niches of sailing conditions.”

“We got the start down, which are 90 per cent of these races. About a third of the starts, we won and we never secured below fourth position at the first reach mark, and that gave us more options downwind.

He added “I did this for the first time and sometimes doing something for the first time keep you focused a bit more. It could be possible that if I do it next time, I won’t be as good.” Continue reading →

Penultimate Day Extreme Series

The Extreme Sailing Series has been in the minds of most sailing fans as they have been following the event since it started on 28th April at Qingdao in China.


The third day of the series saw some exciting performances from the teams on the waters around the Fushan Bay. The British team from the Land Rover BAR Academy was the ones that showed a change in their performance and stole the limelight. They were in the last position after the first day of opening races, but they moved to the second place by showcasing consistent performance on the penultimate day of the series. The skipper of the team, Rob Bunce commanded a talented team of sailors under 24 years of age who enjoyed the outing and competing in the races.

This British team is the youth wing of the Sir Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup version. They went into action to take their disappointing results several notches up on the leader board. They performed with style and excelled even though the weather conditions proved to be shifty. Continue reading →

All the participants are facing tough weather condition in sea and are hoping to get normal weather conditions in the coming days. Le Cléach said “By today night or tomorrow the weather conditions should get to ease tonight and it will be going to nice for all participants after such witnessing such challenging conditions. Katie Spithill Wins WIM Series

Katie Spithill, the one of the most experienced skippers in the world, has been part of Busan Cup International Match Race ever since they inaugurated the event in 2008. That’s not completely as she stayed away for one year when she had to deliver her daughter. Even though she has been part of it for years, she has won the series for the first time in 2016. She defeated Britain’s Macgregor, who is a 2-time champion.

After winning the series, she told the reporters she’s very happy with the win as she has been attending it regularly for the past 8 years. And that makes it a very sweet victory for her. Continue reading →

Holiday Race Series

The latest Holiday Race Series took place at the Clacton Sailing Club in a windy weather. This was quite challenging for the fleet of dinghies and catamarans. The winner was declared only after calculating the handicap times.

Derek Cheek the race officer did the required evaluations as a commodore. Rob Mitchell on his Dart 16 sailed single handed for more than an hour and finally achieved victory. He was only 40 seconds ahead of the other boat. The weather remained windy and fluky. Continue reading →

Murray Jones tops Nespresso Youth International Match Racing

Murray Jones, the skipper of Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, takes the lead after Day Two of the Nespresso Youth International Match Racing Cup.

The skipper along with his crew Tara Blanc-Ramos, Benjamin Robinson and Angus Williams have broken away from the group finishing on top after this day’s racing. Jones was quite happy with the result and he feels that his team are settling into their brand new spots well. Jones smiled when questioned if he felt a lot of pressure to bring the cup back to CYCA,  and said not really, he were just happy to be doing well as of now.
Second placed following the round robin is the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club William Eastman, who said that it might be a great improvement on yesterday, but it was not as easy out there as the results might reveal.
George Anyon, the 3rd qualifying RNZYS Youth Training Programme captain, had a good day losing just 2 matches to both Eastman and Jones. Anyone, who has new man Patrick Haybittle becoming a part of his regular team of Logan Andresen and Josh Wijohn for the regatta Anyon told that Haybittle is fitting in quite well and knowing much more in each race.

SOLAS Big Boat Challenge

It was just previous year when the Australians had their first taste of watching Wild Oats XI, Perpetual Loyal and American yacht Comanche go tête-à-tête in the SOLAS Big Challenge. The 22nd edition tomorrow will be as suspenseful when George David’s much boasted Rambler from USA takes on her bigger Aussie adversaries for the very first time.

Commencing on the Sydney Harbor, Australia, at 12.30 pm, Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s yearly stoush is a test of crew work, stamina as well as a psychological game before the main event, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, in which all players are enrolled. There was also a guest team from PlainSailing.com – a Yacht Rental in Greece company.

SOLAS Big Challenge

George David’s yacht is 88 feet of carbon, boasting a canting keel and would be the most boosted yacht to be on the beginning line for her very first Aussie race tomorrow. And she is really fast. Her speed was evident during the practice run off yesterday.

Rambler’s CV includes wins in Les Voiles de St-Barths, line honors in RORC Caribbean 600 as well as line honors in Fort Lauderdale to Key West event. She was 2nd on line to line honors victor, Comanche, in the Transatlantic Race 2015 as well as in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2015, ended 2nd online once again, 4 minutes behind Comanche.

The crew of Rambler is really made of superstars, led by household name, Brad Butterworth of Whitbread and Admiral’s Cup and America’s Cup fame. Appealing and aboard to Aussie audiences are Will McCarthy and Andrew Cape along with a host of other top players.

Laser entries capped at forty

At present, there are 6 spots left in the Laser Standard Class, leaving a matter of time for the sailors to fix their position the ISAF Sailing World Cup 2015, in Melbourne. The organizers of the event are now saying that the Laser Radial Class will not outmatch the forty athlete allotment and suspect the same in Laser Standard Class. As these numbers would not be adequate to affirm a Qualifying Regatta, a Warm  Up Regatta would substitute the event mentioned earlier.

The warm-up program, earlier known as the Laser Qualifying Regatta, would now be open to all Olympic as well as Invited Class Laser sailors. Any sailors who record outside the forty available spots will now only have a scope to compete in Olympic Class if there are cancellations and invitations to fill these cancellations will be based on the results of Warm-Up Regatta. Sailors earlier registered under Laser Qualifying Regatta status have the scope to withdraw and be refunded if they choose to do so.

ISAF Sailing World Cup in Melbourne, from 7th to 13th December, 2015, is the Oceanic Olympic qualifier for Rio Games next year and nations including Cook Islands as well as Papua New Guinea are not subject to the capped quota as ISAF guarantees them at least one spot.
